Gruess Gott Liebe Mitglieder der Donauschwaben,

We hope this letter finds you well and enjoying this comparatively mild winter. On behalf of the president, Joseph Brandecker, Jr., we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support this past year. 1998 was a good year for the club with a whole list of accomplishments of which we can be proud. Among them are the well-attended monthly dinners; the adult language school; the outdoor activities such as the July 4th canoe trip; the Remembrance Services here in Trenton and in Philadelphia; the annual bake sale at the German Heritage Festival; and more. Naturally, none of this would have been possible without your support! Nochmals, vielen Dank!

Of course, no one at the club is under the impression that more can't and shouldn't be done. A whole list of challenges awaits our attention as we head into the new millennium. Efforts are being made and more will have to be made to address several areas of importance including active membership in all age groups; children and youth participation; and, a whole host of other issues tied to the good health of our organization going forward.

To meet these concerns, the Donauschwaben is blessed to have an outstanding group of members from all walks of life. From hard workers with collars of white and blue; from at-home parents to our sons and daughters in school; from our senior, most experienced members to our very youngest, we have what it takes! We encourage everyone to do what they can to secure a healthy and prosperous future for our club - for our Landsleute who came before us; for our friends and family who come here today; and, for our children who will come tomorrow.

Of course, the practical considerations of club life always loom large. This is indeed a request for membership dues for the current year, 1999. We ask that members with spouses and/or children under age twenty-two pay $18. Individuals are asked to submit $13. Should you have forgotten to pay for 1998 - and there weren't many of you (thanks!) - please do so at this time as well (same rates).

Checks should be made payable to "Danube Swabian Association" and sent to the club address above. Please also include the requested names; any changes/corrections; and your e-mail address if you have one on the slip with your payment.
